Today Izumi came to our apartment this morning, and took us to go pick up Willow's Japanese passport. It is so cute to see a tiny baby's picture on an official passptort! Then we took a train (an above ground train--Fox was excited!) to the Ebisu area. Here's Fox enjoying the trains:
Izumi had picked out a restaurant near the train station that had a vegetarian lunch dish. There was a bit of a wait, and we needed to feed Willlow, so we went to a Doutor Coffee shop to give her a bottle and I got a matcha latte--pretty good, but not the best :)
At the restaurant (not sure of the name) we got the salad bar, which was bizarre--you got a cup to put your veggies in. Here's a picture:
I wasn't even sure what some of them were (there was little bits of corn on the cob, eggplant, various greens, onion, etc)! Then they brought out our main dish--a huge pile of veggies. It came with rice, pickles, and soup (which was't vegetarian). Very pretty, and they were quite delicious, but not terribly filling.
After lunch we took a taxi to the Tokyo British clinic for Willow's official examination. She was weighed by a nurse (she was born at 2.9 kg and now she's 3.8! She's certainly growing!), and then I took her in to see the (British) doctor. He did a basic exam, and declared that she is perfectly healthy :) They gave us a sealed envelope with the report to take to the embassy, and gave us a photocopy. After that we went home and rested for a bit before going out to the grocery store. We were super hungry, so we got noodles and pesto and cheese for dinner :) Oh, and some ice cream.
We've been experimenting with swaddling Willow. She HATES it at first, but after she screams it out she gets very cozy. She slept really well last night when swaddled, so we're trying to stick with it. Here's a picture of her swaddled and grumpy about it.
Tomorrow we have our final embassy visit--the last official activity of the trip! After that we just have *hopefully* the meeting with Willow's birthmother on Thursday, and then we'll be flying home on Friday! It has been an amazing and bizarre trip--with fantastic memories.
The above ground trains are the best! You were on the green train (Yamanote line). It goes in a circle around Tokyo. I'm sad you are leaving Tokyo because I love hearing about all your adventures but I'm DYING to meet Willow! Thanks for all your wonderful stories and best of luck on Thursday. I know it will be a very special and emotional time when you meet the birth mother.
