Adoption Movie Review #2 - King of Masks

This is a movie I've been wanting to see for quite awhile, and I thought it would make a good adoption movie review.  I can sum up the whole movie, though, by saying "wow, do not show this movie to a child who has been adopted."  It was an interesting movie about an old man who is a mask-changer street performer, and who wishes he had an heir so he could pass on his art.  He "adopts" (i.e. buys on the black market) what he thinks is a little boy, but who turns out to be a little girl disguised as a boy.  When he thinks the child is a boy, he loves him, treats him very well, and tells the boy to call him Grandpa.  When he finds out the child is a girl, he is really mad and says that while he won't return her, she has to call him "boss" instead of grandpa, and she will have to work really hard.  Oh, and he won't teach her his mask-changing trick--because she is a girl, not a boy.  The entire movie, although actually pretty good and rather entertaining, continues in this direction--emphasizing how the old man wants a grandson, not a granddaughter--despite the fact she clearly loves him and wants nothing more than to earn his love.  At the very end after the poor little girl jumps through so many hoops and attempts to kill herself in order to save the old man from injustive, he finally accepts her and teaches her his art.  Even though the end is positive, the "boys are better than girls" theming throughout the story is just overwhelming, and I found myself saying to Chris "there is NO way we would show this movie to Willow."
